What is The Anthony Standard?

Growing up in the Anthony household, birthdays weren’t about lavish gifts—they were about meaningful gatherings that brought us closer. My parents gifted us two celebrations: one with family and one with friends. No toys or trinkets, just the joy of shared time, a meal of our choosing, and homemade cake.
For my birthday, I selected a menu that became legendary: cream of potato soup to start, followed by ham, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and sweet potatoes. The cake? A rich chocolate base with one layer of strawberry filling and one of cannoli cream, topped only with whipped cream (buttercream and icing were never my favorites). It was simple, comforting, and uniquely mine.
What started as my personal pick quickly inspired my siblings. For years, until they were old enough to branch out, they chose the exact same meal—and even the cake. My dad, ever the storyteller with a wink, dubbed this phenomenon The Anthony Standard: the idea that one person’s inspired choice could ripple out, influencing those around them in the best way.

The Anthony Standard

The Anthony Standard is something my dad came up with. Growing up for birthdays that my siblings and myself had, my parents gift to us was a party with the family and a party with our friends (they never got us gifts). Family parties consisted of a meal and cake of our choice with close and extended family. The meal I picked was: cream of potato soup, ham, mashed potatoes, asparagus, sweet potatoes. The cake I picked was: chocolate cake, one layer of strawberry filling, one layer of cannoli filling, only allowed to be whipped cream as the topping since I didn’t like the flavor of butter cream or icing.

For many years until my siblings got older, they ended up picking the same meal I did since they liked it. The Anthony Standard is a joke my dad came up with to describe choices I made that were so inspirational that my siblings copied them.

Earlier this year, I beat the IRS in a tax audit they did. The tax audit goes back to 2022. The IRS believed that I owed them 20,000. After informal conversation with them, I received a notice of tax deficiency. I filed in tax court and was assigned a case reviewer. The case reviewer agreed that the discrepancy wouldn’t amount to 20k, but would be smaller. The paperwork I got from IRS still showed I owed them 20k. I did research on the case reviewer and found her wedding website. In my response to the case reviewer, I said that I still wanted to go to tax court since the paperwork showed I owed them 20k. Since the case reviewer was nice, into my response to her, I worked in that she seemed like wonderful person who went home to a loving family at the end of every day and that it was unfortunate that she representing the government and myself had to meet the way we did. After getting that message she reviewed the paperwork and realized there was a mistake. After she did more review, the IRS accepted my original 2022 tax filings and admitted their audit was in error and that the $1100 penalty I filed under amended 2022 taxes would be refunded.

In my older years ‘The Anthony Standard’ grew from more than just making family choices my siblings copied, it grew into the way I interact with people and the way I get successful legal outcomes like I did earlier this year with the IRS.

Evolution of The Anthony Standard

As I’ve grown, The Anthony Standard has evolved far beyond family dinners. It’s become the lens through which I approach every interaction—whether building relationships with clients, navigating challenges, or achieving breakthroughs that others might see as impossible. Take this year, for instance. The IRS launched a tax audit on my 2022 filings, claiming I owed $20,000. After an initial informal chat, I received a notice of deficiency. Undeterred, I filed in tax court and was assigned a case reviewer. She acknowledged the issue was smaller than claimed, but the paperwork stubbornly listed the full $20,000. I did my homework—researching her background, I discovered her wedding website, a glimpse into the warm, personal life she led outside the office. In my response, I politely insisted on proceeding to court based on the documents, but wove in a genuine note: She struck me as a wonderful person who went home to a loving family each day, and it was a shame our paths crossed under these circumstances. That message prompted a deeper review. She uncovered an error in the IRS’s calculations, leading to a full reevaluation. In the end, they accepted my original 2022 returns, conceded the audit was flawed, and refunded the $1,100 penalty I’d paid under my amended filing. This isn’t just a win—it’s The Anthony Standard at work: approaching people with respect and humanity, even in adversity, to foster understanding and resolution. It’s how we handle your security needs too—thoughtfully, influentially, and with outcomes that protect what matters most.
